Plumbing Maintenance Tips
Plumbing maintenance is an important chore for all homeowners. It helps your plumbing run smoothly and efficiently, while also preventing clogs and backups that require costly repairs. This video gives a few pro tips for your at-home plumbing maintenance.
The first and easiest to do is to check for leaks. Check all of your plumbing fixtures in your sink, dishwasher, tubs, laundry machines, and more. Look at your water lines and drainage. Use a paper towel for signs of wetness. Check both where the pipes are and the top, including the faucet.
The next thing you want to do is to run drain cleaner in your sink every two weeks. You can even use baking soda and vinegar. Baking soda and vinegar is only good for preventative maintenance, not clearing an actual clogged drain. It can handle small particles and cleaning, but not huge backups.
A seasonal task to do is clean your hose bibs on the outside of your home. This is especially important if your home is in a location that experiences below-freezing temperatures in the winter. You need to clear out frozen water so it does not go into your pipes and burst them.
