Another mistake you will regret is taping Teflon tape onto the fitting the wrong way. Believe it or not, there is a right and wrong way to do this. If you wrap the tape around counterclockwise, it makes it easy for the tape and fitting to come undone on their own. This can result in a sudden leak when you are not expecting it. Instead, make sure to wrap that Teflon tape clockwise.
