Helpful Asphalt Maintenance Tips
A fresh asphalt driveway is a beautiful thing. It looks good and provides a smooth surface for your car to drive over, decreasing the car’s risk for problems. If you want to keep your asphalt pavement looking as good as new, there are a few asphalt maintenance tips you should follow.
The first tip is to avoid oil or grease spills on the pavement. If it does happen, make sure to clean it up before it can fully seep into the asphalt. The oil will ruin the binding agent that holds the asphalt together and make it vulnerable to cracks, bulges, potholes, and more.
Drive responsibly over your new asphalt surface, too. Avoid braking or accelerating too quickly. Also, avoid dry-turning, which is when you turn your car’s wheel’s at a standstill. The increased friction will cause creasing and cracks which can grow into larger structural damage.
Avoid using asphalt sealer too soon after the installation, too. Wait at least three months before you put any sealer on. The asphalt needs this time to settle into place and applying a sealant will inhibit this and the sealant won’t work properly.
