What are Well Pumps?

Many people rely on wells for water, especially in more rural parts of the country. Well pumps provide ease of access for your water so you can use it anytime. This video explains some of the ins and outs of well pumps and well pump installation.

There are a few different types of well pumps. Shallow pumps will handle a suction head lift of 20-25 feet and is non-submersible. Convertible Jet Pumps can handle a suction head lift of over 90 feet, but are also non-submersible. Deepwater pumps are submersible and can handle a discharge head lift of over 500 feet.

The different types function in different ways. Shallow well pumps, or centrifugal pumps, are often operated by a fan that creates suction. It does not have enough powers for deep wells, but is the most affordable option.

Jet pumps offer the most power of the three. The type you have installed will be determined by how shallow or deep your well is. Single-drop jet pumps are good for shallow and double-drop are good for deep wells.

Submersible pumps are watertight and need little maintenance or repair. They’re the most common type and cost-effective in the long term. For more information, check out the video above.
