What are the best charities to donate to

When you can give donations that pick up at home it’s a very convenient way to be able to help those in need. There are so many people that need clothing donations or different types of things that you could do without; items that you are not even really using. What better way to give household donations than by helping families in need?

There are many reasons why people donate and some of them may even seem selfish but the truth is, with so many charities looking for donations, the motivation behind it doesn’t really matter, as long as the donations happen. For example, a few weeks ago I went through my house top to bottom and got together a whole bunch of gently used items that would be perfect for donating. Well, I was a little to into it and got rid of more than I could fit in my car to take to a drop off center. I found there there were donations that pick up at home and when I called, they came the very next day and got everything for me! That may seem selfish that the only reason I did that was to clear out my house, but the truth is, there was a mutual benefit for both me and the charity as well whoever received my donations. Let’s take a look at a few motivations for donating.

  1. Tax Deductions
Whatever you donate can be written off on the following years taxes as a deduction. All you have to do is make sure that you get a receipt from the charity for the items that you donated and then you can add it in while you file your taxes next year and get a nice little credit. The more you donate, the more deductions you get.

  2. Seeing Beyond Yourself
Many times we get so caught up in our own worlds that we forget about other people and the things they are going through. Sometimes it’s a good idea to step outside our comfort zone and take a look at the misfortunes of other to remind ourselves that we really do have it pretty good. It can almost make us feel guilty for being so wrapped up in our problems when there are people out there with real, genuine issues that we never even thought about. As the old saying goes, “as bad as you think you’ve got it, someone out there has got it worse than you.” Reaching out to those people can change your life for the better.

  3. Personal Fulfillment
There is a sense of satisfaction that comes from donating. Even if all you do is gather the items and then have donations that pick up at home come and get them. You are helping someone and that is something to be proud of, for sure. There is nothing wrong with feeling personally fulfilled at the fact that you went out of your way even just a little to see it to that someone else was taken care of. It’s a great accomplishment and you should enjoy every feeling that comes with it. Knowing that you are making a difference in someone else’s life is one of the best feelings in the world and no one should be able to take that from you.

  4. Meeting a Need
If the real reason you are donating is truly because you want to meet a need in someone else’s life than then that is fantastic. However, be sure that you do not look down on anyone else that has a different motivation. On the other hand, wanting to reach out and help someone is such a noble desire and very admirable. This is the main focus of every charity. Donations that pick up at home and are dropped off at a center all go to this one cause: meeting a need, helping someone, making a difference. That is what is important when it comes to donating.

Whatever your motivation is when it comes to donating, don’t let it stop you from doing so. And if you weren’t motivated, hopefully you are now after reading this article and seeing there are so many different reasons why people donate and no reason is a bad reason for doing a good thing.
