Wood vs. Vinyl Fences
If you are considering fencing, you are likely choosing between wood and vinyl fences. They each have their advantages and disadvantages. This video explains the differences between the two so you can decide which is best for you.
The first thing to consider is pricing. While the prices will vary from company to company, this company charges $11,683 for 200 feet of linear fencing. The vinyl fence costs $12,119 for the same yard. This is including two gates.
While the wood fence is cheaper for installation, customers also have to account for a wood sealer that will be applied to the fence to protect against the elements and pests. This sealer can put the total price of the wood fence over the vinyl fence, which does not require a sealer.
For the long-term costs, you have to consider resealing the wood over the years, which will incur further costs. The staining needs to be done every three to four years, and the fence will last on average 15 years. The fence then needs to be replaced.
The vinyl fence has negligible maintenance costs. As long as the fence is cleaned every now and again, the fence will remain good as new for well over 15 years. Clearly, the vinyl fence is more cost-effective.
