Tools for Beginner Plumbers
If you are a homeowner, it’s beneficial to know a few tricks for repairs on appliances and utilities around the house. You don’t need to be an expert technician, but knowing how to fix some things will help you temporarily fix issues until the calvary arrives. A good area to start is plumbing.
The first thing to know about your plumbing system is the main water shut-off valve. Make sure you have this located and tagged with a sign to identify it. In the case of an emergency, like a broken pipe in your wall, you will be able to quickly go and turn off the water to prevent excessive damage. Then call professional plumbers!
Start your toolkit with a basic set of water pump pliers. Get a few of varying sizes so you can deal with the various pipes underneath your sinks and behind your toilets. They have teeth on the grip so that you get a solid hold of anything that needs to be tightened or loosened.
Another type of wrench to get is a basin wrench. It will get you into tight locations where you don’t have the clearance to use the water pump pliers. For more information, check out the video above.
