How to Clear a Clogged Drain
Clogged drains are a common problem for anyone. Regular drain cleaning can help prevent this, but sometimes we’re too busy until the problem becomes noticeable. This video will show how to fix a clogged drain to get your bathroom shower and tub back up and running.
The first step is to remove the plate on the overflow. If it doesn’t come right off when you unscrew the plate, use a pair of pliers to pull it out. Be careful not to break it!
The next tool you’ll need is a drain snake. They make smaller models for home use. Put it down the overflow and apply steady pressure to get it through all of the curves at the bottom of the vertical pipe.
When it starts running smoothly, you will know you have made it past the trap. Start pulling the snake back through to you. If nothing comes back up with it, you may have dislodged the leak. Run water to see if it is draining faster than before.
To be totally sure, run the snake through a couple of more times with the water running. Inspect the overflow connector for any signs of damage that may indicate it needs to be replaced.
