Proper Garage Door Maintenance
Your garage door is one of the most used appliance in your home. You open and close it every day! To keep it from breaking down, you need to conduct routine garage door maintenance. This video shows some of the best maintenance tips to keep your garage door in good working order.
You want to perform a monthly maintenance check if possible. It’s important to consult your owner’s manual so you don’t put yourself in unsafe conditions.
One thing you can easily check is the door’s balance. Close the door and disconnect the carriage from the chain or belt by pulling the red string hanging from the upper installation. Lift the door halfway and then let go. If the door stays open at the halfway point, you have a good balance. If it shuts or opens completely, the balance is off.
Next, grab a two-by-four and set it where the garage door closes. Close the door and see if it reverses once it comes into contact with the two-by-four. If it doesn’t, the downforce needs to be adjusted on the opener.
